Vertex \Ver"tex\, n.; pl. E. {Vertexes}, L. {Vertices}. [L.
vertex, -icis, a whirl, top of the head, top, summit, from
vertere to turn. See {Verse}, and cf. {Vortex}.]
A turning point; the principal or highest point; top; summit;
crown; apex. Specifically:
[1913 Webster]
(a) (Anat.) The top, or crown, of the head.
[1913 Webster]
(b) (Astron.) The zenith, or the point of the heavens
directly overhead.
[1913 Webster]
(c) (Math.) The point in any figure opposite to, and farthest
from, the base; the terminating point of some particular
line or lines in a figure or a curve; the top, or the
point opposite the base.
[1913 Webster]

Note: The principal vertex of a conic section is, in the
parabola, the vertex of the axis of the curve: in the
ellipse, either extremity of either axis, but usually
the left-hand vertex of the transverse axis; in the
hyperbola, either vertex, but usually the right-hand
vertex of the transverse axis.
[1913 Webster]

{Vertex of a curve} (Math.), the point in which the axis of
the curve intersects it.

{Vertex of an angle} (Math.), the point in which the sides of
the angle meet.

{Vertex of a solid}, or {Vertex of a surface of revolution}
(Math.), the point in which the axis pierces the surface.
[1913 Webster]

  • Vertex (geometry) - Wikipedia
In geometry, a vertex (pl : vertices or vertexes), also called a corner, is a point where two or more curves, lines, or line segments meet or intersect For example, the point where two lines meet to form an angle and the point where edges of polygons and polyhedra meet are vertices [1][2][3]

  • VERTEX Simple Definition - Merriam-Webster
The simple definition of VERTEX is a point where two lines meet to form an angle; especially : the point on a triangle that is opposite to the base
  • VERTEXES | English meaning - Cambridge Dictionary
In essence, every edge is just an internal node of a tree or directed acyclic graph, and vertexes are the leaf nodes
  • Vertex - Math. net
In analytic geometry, the vertex of the graph of a parabola is the graph's maximum point or minimum point The vertices for the graphs of the other conic sections are critical points that help define their graphs There are 2 vertices for the graph of an ellipse
  • VERTEXES | definition in the Cambridge English Dictionary
When modeling a robot system as a graph, links are modeled as vertexes and joints are modeled as edges
  • Vertexes - definition of vertexes by The Free Dictionary

  • What Are Vertices In Math? - Sciencing
Most geometrical shapes, whether two or three dimensional, possess vertices For instance, a square has four vertices, which are its four corners A vertex can also refer to a point in an angle or in a graphical representation of an equation The word vertex comes from Latin for the crown of a head
  • Vertex -- from Wolfram MathWorld
